Mingei Margiela

A summary of undergrad in a handbag
Mingei Margiela is a recreation of the $1700 Maison Margiela Glam Slam handbag I made out of trash. If you find it an unusual choice for an undergraduate Visual Communication Design capstone, you’re not the only one. From my perspective, this is a culmination of my undergrad journey: studying design formally three years, living and studying in Japan for one, and growing as a person throughout. Ultimately this project, Mingei Margiela, is a culmination of things I love and admire. It’s a journey including nerding out about Maison Margiela, becoming enlightened by Mingei (the Japanese arts and crafts movement), 22 hours of hand sewing, and a single handbag.
