Sentimental Bloom

Over the past two years, I've developed an infatuation with flowers and the potential of this medium to create compelling yet temporary installations. With the constraints of this time, I focused this passion into creating a publication for my capstone. Each of us has spoken the language of flowers. It’s the language we invoke when our words escape us, when there’s no literal translation for the way that we feel. There is a fascinating history of floral languages from the development in the Victorian Era to modern, cultural symbolism. This publication asks the viewer to question what is it about flowers that makes them the perfect conduit for our innermost feelings and to thoughtfully consider what emotional associations we have with different flowers. The image-heavy content is composed of carefully curated visuals from artists and photographers who abstract these floral forms as a way to conjure different reactions.
